For years, Julian Rios Cantu's mother battled breast cancer, eventually needing a double mastectomy. Even though he is just a teenager, Julian wanted to keep other women from that same fate, so he invented something incredible.
The 18-year-old created what he calls an "auto-exploration bra" named EVA. Using 200 sensors, the brassiere is able to detect early signs of cancer. It's especially important in Mexico, where Julian lives, because there are just 9.5 mammography machines per million people.
Best of all, the bra just needs to be worn for one hour a week. During that time it maps the characteristics of the breasts, sends that data to a computer or smartphone via Bluetooth and examines any changes.
Julian has already formed his own company, Higia Technologies, which recently won the top prize of $20,000 at the Global Student Entrepreneur Awards.
