A 21 year old—Branen Carter-- is dead—shot by a security guard after stabbing his mother and grandmother at the Social Security Office in McComb yesterday morning.  Both women were taken to the hospital, and his grandmother is said to be in stable condition. 

Gulfport police are looking for a suspect in a shooting Sunday night on 3rd Street.  They say Ricky McDonald should be considered armed and dangerous.

You won’t be able to reach the Tax Assessor or Chancery Clerks Office at the Hancock County Annex Building by phone for at least another day.  The system was damaged by a water leak from an air conditioning unit overnight Sunday.

GOP politicians in Mississippi are giving rousing support to President Trump's nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to replace retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy on the U.S. Supreme Court. Governor Bryant tweeted that Kavanaugh is committed to the rule of law, while Senator Roger Wicker says Kavanaugh has a record for upholding the Constitution, Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith noting his dedication to the fair interpretation of our laws.

Vic Schaefer will be hanging around a while longer at Mississippi State University. The women's basketball coach landed a four-year contract extension yesterday. School officials say the Texas native is being rewarded after back-to-back trips to the Final Four and his numerous coaching accolades. His base compensation over the next four years will exceed six-million-dollars.

Forecasters are keeping an eye on Tropical Storm Chris as it continues to get stronger. Chris is currently churning off the North Carolina coast, where it's been for the last day or so. The storm is expected to gain strength and become a hurricane sometime today. Forecasters don't expect Chris to threaten the U.S. at all as it moves northeast over the Atlantic. However, it could bring strong and potentially dangerous swells to the Carolina and mid-Atlantic coasts for the next few days.

Chick-fil-A is celebrating Cow Appreciation Day. Anyone who dresses up like a cow today will get free food from Chick-fil-A. That includes any entrée on the menu or waffle fries. In case you don't have a full cow costume lying around, the chain says anyone who visits one of their restaurants wearing any sort of cow apparel will receive a free entrée. Over 22-hundred locations will be participating in the giveaway from opening until 7 p.m.
