July 26 Local Headlines:

A reward for information leading to the arrest of whoever shot a pregnant dolphin in April is up to almost $12-thousand.  The dolphin’s carcass washed up along the beach in Waveland in April.  The killing of the mammal is punishable by up to a year in prison, and a $100-thousand fine.  (Call the NOAA Hotline at 800-853-1964 if you have information about the crime.)

Pascagoula Mayor Dane Maxwell isn’t sure how the city got $14-million into the red, something that’s come to light in a recent forensic audit.  He’s mentioned the possibility of selling some city parks to get back in the black.

MDOC Officials believe understaffing was a factor in the recent escape of a convicted killer.  Michael Wilson—also known as Pretty Boy Floyd—fled the facility in Greene County July 5th, and was captured in Ocean Springs 3 days later.  They’ve lost about 91 full time workers…so there are about 340 employees, and over 3000 inmates.

Former D’Iberville High football star Jacquelle Green will spend at least five years in prison after his guilty plea Tuesday to his role in the armed robbery of a pizza delivery driver a couple of years ago.  He’s still facing home invasion and armed robbery charges from another incident in Ocean Springs in December of last year.

Mississippi's only full-service shelter for the victims of human trafficking has been open for only a year -- and already it's run out of space. The Center for Violence Prevention says its shelter in Rankin County that's known as The Tower has already served about two dozen sex trafficking victims since it opened last July. And now it's trying to raise money to build an additional shelter for adults -- and a specialized facility to house the younger victims of human trafficking.

Somebody stole Governor Bryant's weedeater. And the First Lady is upset about it. Bryant says their farm in Copiah (kuh-PIE-uh) County was burglarized and says he asked his wife to stay away from their 19-acre spread until the crime is solved. But Deborah Bryant apparently wants to make sure it doesn't happen again. The governor says she told him, in some rather colorful language, that she planned to head to the farm with her rifle and wait for the burglars to come back.
