You’ve heard a lot about Pascagoula’s $14-million deficit, which the current administration has pretty much blamed past administrations for.  But former Mayor Jim Blevins issued a statement yesterday saying it’s incomprehensible to think any council member might have intentionally done something fraudulent or criminal.  He told WLOX he was told the present council has spent $44-million through the first three quarters of this budget year, and pointed out that several external audicts done during the previous administration are public record. 

Biloxi Mayor Andrew Gilch issued a statement yesterday saying the city was already being "proactive" to railroad crossing safety in the city. Gilch says warning signs identifying crossings with steep grades had already been placed and says the city has taken the lead to reconfigure the Main Street crossing where the crash occurred after the bottom of the bus became stuck on the tracks.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is releasing its updated 2018 Atlantic hurricane forecast today. The agency's pre-season report called for above average hurricane activity but only two hurricanes have formed so far. Hurricane season runs through the end of November.

A necropsy is being done on a dolphin found washed up on Deer Island Tuesday.  The Institute for Marine Mammal Studies believes the adult male died a questionable death because it had a full stomach, a sign that the dolphin was in good health. 

Mississippians are alive today, thanks to the distribution of Narcan to law enforcement and first responders. The nasal spray has been used in the state since August of last year to reverse the effect of an opioid overdose. Administering Narcan to overdose victims has saved the lives of at least 58 people in Mississippi in a year's time. The drug is being distributed free of charge to some 200 agencies by Stand Up, Mississippi whose goal is to end the state's opioid crisis.

A 23-year-old woman is behind bars at the Harrison County Jail following a deadly shooting in Gulfport late Tuesday night. Sandra Goff is charged with first-degree murder in the killing of a 38-year-old man. He was found dead inside a River Road residence after suffering a gunshot wound to the chest. The two had reportedly been involved in an argument just prior to the shooting.
