If you haven't taken the time to get your flu shot yet, this news may spur you to do so. The Mississippi Department of Health reports the state has recorded its first laboratory-confirmed influenza case for the 2018-2019 flu season. The agency only identified the victim as an adult and not where the individual lives. It's quick to point out that doctors statewide have already treated numerous flu cases, with the season usually peaking during the months of January through March.
Voters in Waveland have decided the city's future leadership. They cast their ballots yesterday for the city's next mayor, as well as the makeup of the Board of Aldermen. As it turned out, Democrat Mike Smith easily won a second term as mayor, as did Jeremy Burke, Bobby Richardson and Shane Lafontaine in their bids to remain on the board. Charles Piazza received the most votes in the Ward 4 race, but only by eight votes over Sarah Cure Clark, one of three challengers for the post.
