Several MS locations got caught up in a nationwide hoax.

Today is Free Shipping Day. More than a thousand retailers should take part in the shopping holiday by offering free shipping on items as well as various discounts. The day serves as a last chance to save big on gifts and holiday items this year after Black Friday and Cyber Monday. FreeShippingDay.com has listed several participating merchants and the deals they might be offering today.

Some MS locations were evacuated yesterday.  A bomb threat hoax targeted hundreds of businesses, agencies, and schools around the country. Fox's Jessica Rosenthal reports.  The police department in Pearl and the Choctaw County School District are among hundreds of places nationwide that received bomb threats yesterday.  After receipt of the email in Pearl, the town's city hall, community center and public library were evacuated.

A bomb sniffing dog was sent into Long Beach Middle School in an unrelated incident.  A student found a threatening note in the bathroom, and the building was checked as a precaution.  The threat turned out not to be viable, and the students were never in danger.

There's a new person on the job as the permanent leader of the Mississippi Department of Health. The agency announced yesterday that Dr. Thomas Dobbs has been named by the Board of Health to take over full-time as state health officer, succeeding Dr. Mary Currier who held the post for just under nine years before retiring October 31st. Dobbs was holding down the post on an interim basis until yesterday's board decision.
