Stevie Nicks Just Heard A Dove Sing 40 Years After 'Edge Of Seventeen'

Stevie Nicks' iconic song “Edge of Seventeen” off her chart-topping debut solo album, 1981's Bella Donna, is as legendary as she is.

Well, nearly 40 years after she wrote the lyrics, “Just like the white winged dove/ Sings a song/ Sounds like she's singin'/ Whoo-whoo-whoo,” Nicks has a confession to make.

It turns out, despite the lyrics (that you're definitely singing in your head right now), the Fleetwood Mac singer has never actually heard a dove sing before.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer took to Twitter on Tuesday (April 7) to post a video of a dove outside her house and provided some context about the song.

Not only did the lyrics not come from her own experience, but Nicks reveals the lyrics were from a menu and this is the first time she recalls ever witnessing a dove sing.

“In 1980 I was flying home from Phoenix Arizona and I was handed a menu that said, 'The white wing dove sings a song that sounds like she’s singing ooh, ooh, ooh. She makes her home here in the great Saguaro cactus that provides shelter and protection for her…'” she wrote.

She continued: “As you well know, I was very taken with that whole picture and went on to write 'Edge of Seventeen.' But over the last 40 years I can honestly say, I have never heard a dove sing~ until now. Several days ago, outside my room, I started to hear the sound of a bird singing the same thing over and over. One little Ahhh~ and then three OOH’s~ over and over again. I thought it was an owl, but a friend said, 'No, that’s a dove!'”

The 71-year-old admitted she “started to cry” as she watched and listened to the bird in the trees. “This dove had come here to watch over me. So we filmed her singing her song & I’m sending her out to you,” she wrote.

Incredible right?
