Neil Finn Would Be 'Delighted' To See Fleetwood Mac Reunite With Buckingham

It's unclear if there's any possibility of Lindsey Buckingham rejoining Fleetwood Mac three years after being fired from the band, but Crowded House frontman Neil Finn says he would "gladly step aside" to see the band's classic lineup reunite.

Finn and Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell were hired to replace Buckingham in Fleetwood Mac following his sudden dismissal from the group in 2018.

Finn admitted to Rolling Stone in a new interview that he doesn't know if he'll get the chance facilitate Buckingham's return, but he's hopeful.

“I would be delighted for them if they reconcile,” Finn said. “I would gladly step aside to allow that to happen. I’m not entering the arena in terms of whether that is possible. But I’m really happy that Mick [Fleetwood] has crossed some bridges with Lindsey. I know that had to happen at some point.”

He continued, noting that the issues between Buckingham and his former band are complex and go back decades. "But look, if [a reunion] served Fleetwood Mac and its best interested, I would be delighted for them. I wouldn't lay any claim for put any obstacles in front of them."

While Mick Fleetwood in intent on working with Buckingham again — and is hopeful for a farewell tour with him back in Fleetwood Mac — the guitarist/singer was reportedly fired from the band due to longstanding issues with singer Stevie Nicks, which came to a head during the band's MusiCares Person of the Year honors in 2018.

To make matters more complicated, Fleetwood Mac singer Christine McVie said in February that she suspects the band is retiring, with no plans to tour again following the pandemic.
