Blessing of the Fleet & Fais Do-Do
Saturday 12 p.m. to 10 p.m., Sunday 2 p.m. Point Cadet Plaza Pavilion, Biloxi
‘Saturday: 90th Annual Fais Do-Do – Point Cadet Pavilion from noon to 10pm features craft vendors, local artisans, and great seafood. Live entertainment. The Blessing Mass at St. Michael Catholic Church, located on Highway 90 – 4pm.
Sunday: The celebration continues with the ceremonial wreath dropping at 2pm. Boats will line up in the west end of the Biloxi Channel near the Beau Rivage Casino and then parade east in the Biloxi Channel. All shrimp and recreational boats are invited to receive a blessing for a safe and bountiful season. Cash prizes will be awarded; $1,000 will be given to the 1st place best decorated boat, $500 will be given to 2nd best decorated boat, and a $500 participation award will be given to a selected working boat.

Attention Jeep lovers! Long Beach is the place to be Saturday, June 1st for Jeepin The Coast. The event will feature a slow-roll Jeep parade through downtown Long Beach starting at 6pm, a Jeep Show N Shine Contest, and local vendors selling crafts, food, drink and more. This is a family friendly event with a bounce house available for the kids, as well as a splash pad. Free live music is also a big part of the party. The All Nighters take the stage at 3pm until 6pm. Then Category 6 will entertain the crowd from 7:30pm until 10pm. And best of all, you don’t have to own a Jeep to participate. Just bring your chairs and spend the day in the grass of the Long Beach Town Green.
Parade Route: Jeepers will parade up Jeff Davis Avenue, turn right onto First Street, right onto South Burke and end at the back of the Harper McCaughan Town Green. Parade participants will be able to park and enjoy the live music afterwards.

Pascagoula Library to host Earth From Space Smithsonian Poster exhibit
The Pascagoula Public Library will showcase a Smithsonian Poster Exhibit: Earth From Space beginning June 1 through August 1, in the library atrium. The exhibit will be open at 9 a.m. until closing each day. To schedule a group visit or for more information, call the library at 228-769-3060. Earth from Space is 20-poster exhibition that features images and text from the popular museum exhibition of the same name. A collaboration with geographer and curator Andrew Johnston at the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum’s (NASM) Center for Earth and Planetary Studies, the traveling exhibit won a 2007 U.S. Geological Survey communications award for science content.The exhibit presents large color reproductions of images captured by high-tech satellites constantly circling the globe, recording conditions and events that are nearly impossible to document on the planet’s surface. Rare views of events such as dust storms, forest fires, volcanic eruptions, and hurricanes are accompanied by text that explains how satellite imagery is gathered and used to explore the Earth. Documenting environmental cycles, natural disasters, and man-made ecological effects, satellite images provide clues about the dynamic nature of our planet and offer rich opportunities to engage students in a wide range of science curricula including geography, environmental studies, ecology, oceanography, and meteorology.
